Ghana Integrity Initiative
THE PRESS RELEASE BY THE ATTORNEY-GENERAL AND MINISTER OF JUSTICE, HON. MARTIN AMIDU AND SUBSEQUENT DEVELOPMENTS

GII wishes to take advantage of these developments to call on President John Atta Mills and his ruling NDC party to rise up above partisan considerations to live up to the ideals of transparency and accountability and deal with corruption as a national canker that must be extricated from the Ghanaian society. The President should, therefore, institute immediate investigations into the allegations made by the former Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Mr. Amidu, and provide adequate protection and support for him.........

A TIME TO STAND UP AND BE COUNTED – GHANA’S PARLIAMENT

The Right to Information Bill is more important than all these bills because the RTI legislation will help ensure that transparent processes, be they the electoral processes or procurement processes, are followed for the benefit of the majority of Ghanaians. Ghanaians need to know how loans are spent, the contracts that will be awarded, who the contracts will be awarded to and on what criteria. Transparency is clearly linked to good governance, economic growth and poverty reduction. The President has promised Ghanaians a transparent and accountable government. THE “VOICE OF THE PEOPLE” SURVEY ON CORRUPTION

Ghana needs an effective political leadership that is committed to fighting corruption and promptly bringing to book persons found culpable no matter their political affiliation. The government, through the appropriate state institutions, must intensify supervision, control and internal audits of all public institutions, including the revenue agencies. This should be enhanced by task forces and regular visits by supervisory bodies......

CORRUPTION - ACT NOW

Job seekers have to offer money or sex to be considered for employment. Road users pay bribes on continuous basis to the police on the road for the slightest infringement where caution could have done the trick.  Justice is often for the highest bidder. Politicians offer money and goods to the electorates for their votes and then turn round to steal funds entrusted into their care once they win political power. Public and civil servants create bureaucratic orbiting in order to force people who have the right to their services to pay bribes. Students pressure teachers for marks they do not deserve while teachers demand gratifications from students to pass them. Journalists demand “soli” from newsmakers before their stories are published or aired. The list is endless. In issues of corruption, both the giver and the receiver are equally guilty.
