Activities Implemented from June to October
  • Water Management Training   workshop for the Kweiman Danfa water board and stakeholders

  • Two person’s from GII receive training on Participatory videoing (PV) in Uganda

  • Development of a risk map to aid monitoring

  • PV training for the Kweiman/Danfa water system

  • PV video developed by community members

  • Revenue collectors training from the Ga East Municipality organised

  • Monitoring Visit by PCA coordinator from TI’s

  • Visited the Kweiman and Otinibi communities and held meetings with the Water Board

Success Stories

  • Water board and other stakeholders in the Kweiman/Danfa water system built to better manage their water system

  • Appreciation of PV as a community empowerment tool

  • Community produced PV video

  • Appreciation of the challenges and gaps in the water system through the development of a risk map.

  • A WATSAN committee  set up and trained to manage their new water system

  • A contract awarded and Contractor already on site constructing the system

Strategies From June 2010

  • PV a tool is now used by the PCA team

  • A risk Map which identify risk of possible corruption and lack of transparency in the system

  • Continued collaboration between the stakeholders like the Municipal Assembly, Municipal Water and Sanitation Team, and the community
Challenges

  • Different community expectations
  • Media management
  • Community expert to receive allowances for attending meetings
  • Low community participation in one group
  • Community used to old habits (do not get sick when they drink water because they have built resistance over time)
Community integration experiences
  • Community reception by the Chiefs, community, elders and the people has been encouraging
  • Support from MCE, the Assembly and technical staff
  • Increased involvement of community
  • Community supporting with small funds (eg. the first travel to Aburi)

Strategies in moving forward

  • Develop a communication strategy to increase community buy-in based on test results
  • Use PV to increase community participation
  • Develop more PCA IEC materials
  • Media Soiree, develop activity specific media briefs
  • Public sensitization programmes on poverty and corruption for different groups
  • Document results and evidence of change for publication to aid mobilization of funds and replication in other communities
