NADMO gets new Boss
9 June 2015
Brigadier General Francis Vib Sanziri has been appointed Acting National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO). A statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah said Brigadier General Sanziri who replaces Kofi Portuphy is currently the Director General, Joint Operations at the General Headquarters.
Kofi Portuphy who is also the Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) resigned in May 2015 after pressure from various organisations includiing the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) mounted. They argued that Portuphy’s continuous stay in office as NADMO boss was a clear violation of Article 78, section 3 of the constitution.
Several groups including the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) also charged Parliament to put pressure on the President to force Portuphy to resign. But some NDC communicators insisted that Portuphy’s position does not in no way breach the nation’s constitution.
