VALIDATION MEETING FOR THE REDD+ CORRUPTION RISK ASSESSMENT RESEARCH OF GHANA INTEGRITY INITIATIVE - REDD+ IN PROJECT
Corruption Risk Assessments are an analytical and a due diligence exercise to identify issues associated with, contributing to, or otherwise facilitating corruption in a particular setting, whether geographic, programmatic, or institutional. A particular programmatic area where improved understanding of corruption risks, and the adaptation of development interventions to take them into account, has been raised to be of crucial importance is in the implementation of bilateral and multilateral aid programmes REDD+. REDD+ schemes use financial incentives with the intention to reduce carbon emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, while Natural resources play a vital role in the economy of many countries. The extent to which those resources profit the well-being of its citizens is of great importance. Even though, some states exploit their forests, minerals or fossil fuels in a way that supports poverty alleviation, economic and social development. However, other resource-rich countries suffer economic stagnation, social conflict and in some cases civil war. Reasons behind this differ and continue to be debated. What is certain, however is that corruption in natural resource management hampers their efficient and equitable allocation, thereby reducing their potential to drive green, sustainable development.
As part of activities to achieve the project objectives, GII seeks to solicit the inputs of key stakeholders towards the finalization of the REDD+ Corruption Risk Assessment (REDD+ CRA) research report. This research aims at helping government anticipate what type of grievances to anticipate as well as create an information sharing and learning platform amongst key stakeholder groups.
Based on the above, GII is organising a stakeholder’s meeting with stakeholders which will take place on the 3rd of February, 2016 from 10.00am at the (Venue to be determined and communicated to you as soon as possible).
